Lunar New Year Party

Today we went to a Lunar New Year Party that the western suburbs playgroup hosted. We all had such a great time! They had fun crafts for the kids, games for them too and since everyone brought a Chinese dish and kid friendly foods to pass, we all ate a lot! The room was all decked out in fun New Year decorations. Even an authentic Chinese New Year DVD was playing on the TV thanks to our friend Kerry who thought of bringing home CNY stuff for our party. (she's been home 2 weeks now from their journey to Maddie, thanks Kerry!)

One of the dads led the children in a traditional Dragon dance. The kids LOVED it! It was so cute to see Kamryn parading around shaking her noise maker and just grinning from ear to ear. She enjoyed every minute of it! The kids loved receiving their hong-bao too - red envelopes with money in it - today's envelope contained a chocolate coin.

Lots of us followed the tradition of wearing red (to scare away evil spirits and bad fortune) and the children all looked adorable in their authentic Chinese outfits. When Kamryn and I were getting ready this morning, she loved the fact that her and I were both wearing red, black pants and shoes and had on matching bracelets. It was so sweet to see her proudly run and show daddy her total ensemble.

You know I need to mention that the boys truly had a good time today too. They are so good about embracing Kamryn's heritage. Brendan really loves to learn about Chinese astrology and probably knows more than I do about it. We have a book about it, and he will sit and read it often. He already knows when the next year of the Tiger will be; he's a tiger. Today they both did the crafts and even played pin the tail on the panda bear!

Here's Kamryn with her friend Josie.

Normally we go to church on Sunday morning, but since we were already out, we decided to go tonight. As fate would have it, the gal leading the 3 year old classroom is logged in already to adopt from China too. She is going to be the lead 3's teacher in the new Plainfield church location, so hopefully we can connect her to these wonderful groups we are a part of!

Julie,
We had such fun at the party too. I was so impressed with your boys- you mentioned how they have really embraced Kamryn's heritage and I could see that to be so true. Such great big brothers. Kamryn is lucky to have them and the boys are going to have to watch out come high school (or college- Dave says Grace can't date until college! lol).
So fun to see all the kids together enjoying special celebrations.
Hugs,
Kerry

Julie,
I'm so jealous. Looks like you guys had a great WARM party. We had fun in Chinatown. I would love to take you and Kamryn or even the whole family. It's a quick drive especially during the day during the week. It will bring back lots of good memories of CHina. You and Kamryn look so pretty together. That photo needs to be framed.
